Hitachi Tool’s Research and Development department has been focusing on this development for several years and constantly provides the die-making and mould-making markets with market-driven, innovative tooling solutions.
The harder the material, the greater the demands placed on the machining tools. Added to this, the high levels of tool wear prevent moulds from being produced with the greatest possible tolerances. For this reason, more CBN tools have been developed for harder materials. Due to chipping and other defects, however, these have often failed to be dependable and usable over extended machining times.
With this application requirement in mind, Hitachi Tool has developed the new micro-grain solid carbide miniature end mill Epoch Super Hard Ball which significantly reduces the gap between solid carbide and CBN tools. A new cutting geometry, coupled with our tried-and-tested NANO PVD TH45+ coating, along with the optimised micro-grain solid carbide substrate, give the user levels of resistance to wear and tear similar to those found in CBN tools.
The back-draft effect now ensures stable and dependable machining on the tiniest of diameters, with minimal vibration. The superior radius and shaft tolerances enable precise finishing operations to be performed.
The Epoch Super Hard Ball has a standard tolerance of between -0.007 mm and +0.003 mm at the radius. It displays high resistance to wear and tear even on materials over 60HRC(and up to 72HRC). The Epoch Super Hard Ball is available in dimensions of between R0.05 mm and R1.0 mm. All this makes it the ideal end mill for machining workpieces with the tiniest of dimensions.
